It was a little more complicated to put together than the smaller crates, but it's perfect. My lab has to have cruciate ligament surgery and his current crate is too small with the cone. It is large enough for him to freely move around and for me to actually go in there with him to give him attention. It's big and takes up a fair amount of space, but I am very happy with the purchase. Hopefully, it will minimize the difficulty of the 12 week recovery for an active dog!
Aside from selecting the best wire dog crate for your pooch, you should also consider accessories that add to their level of comfort and security. If your dog needs a little more privacy or warmth, a wire dog crate cover is simple to attach. A majority of containment options come with a slide out pan for easy cleaning and divider panels to adjust the space as your pup grows. For senior dog’s that suffer from joint pain, orthopedic and memory foam dog crate beds offer them much-needed support. This thing is huge and the price was great, but the design makes for a very challenging effort to assemble or move this. While we don't need to move it often - we do like to bring a kennel for road trips or when we have visitors, it's a pain the rear to disassemble and reassemble. It does not collapse and fold flat like every other kennel I've seen - it uses (4) rods in the corners through metal loops in the sides to keep the structure together. The top, sides, and bottoms simply hook together, but this alone can be a frustrating experience. I put it together alone, but I struggle to think two people would make this easier due to frustration and potential marriage counseling required after This thing is huge and the price was great, but the design makes for a very challenging effort to assemble or move this. To make matters worse, the packaging materials included styrofoam that must have been damaged in transit. The structural foam had dissintegrated causing a snow storm in the house that was very difficult to vaccuum up because of the static charge. Lastly, the crate pieces were bent when they arrived, so the packaging isn't great for shipping. This further complicated assembly because the hooks that connect the pieces saw the bulk of the damage. My dog doesn't challenge the structural integrity of the kennel, but I would guess an ambitious dog can quickly defeat this enclosure. I would not buy this one again if I could go back. In fact, I am looking for another XXL crate to use for trips so I never have to reassemble this one again... It's just not worth the hassle to return this given the price. … more
Dogs have a natural instinct to have a den enclosure and owners can satisfy these needs by providing them with a crate. Crates are also practical training and housebreaking tool because dogs are naturally averse to soiling in their den. Extra-strong crates can be used to prevent dogs and puppies from destroying their surroundings and chewing furniture.

It also has air vents at the tops and bottoms of the sides and rear of the crate. The front door has the greatest level of airflow due to it’s vertical and horizontal crossover bar design. And of course because the crate is made from aluminum, it dissipates heat much faster than a steel crate could. So this is a crate that you could comfortably in multi-climates. The crate won’t get too hot, and it has ample air flow all around.
After sorting through hundreds of models, interviewing dog experts, assembling the top models and lugging them to a veteran trainer for examination, and then trying to break each crate at its weakest points with measured force, we found that the MidWest Ultima Pro is the crate most people should get for their dog. It’s the most sturdy, secure, and adaptable wire crate we found, and it’s designed to last over the lifetime of many dogs. It’s also available in multiple sizes.
Keeping the dog inside is not the only purpose of a pet crate – it also protects the pooch from the dangers of the outside world. During the journey, a kennel has to withstand things like scrapes, bumps, and occasional knocks without breaking apart. Therefore, the heavy-duty models are your best choice – they’re sturdier and more durable than the regular crates.
This method is favored by the smarter pooches who don’t have the strength to brute force their escape. The dog will play with the latch using their nose or paws until it is unlocked. Perseverance is vital for the dog in this regard, first attempts at manipulating the lock may seem clumsy and without purpose, but smart dogs soon learn what works and what does not.
