Because of these and other benefits, we have decided to put the market’s most popular models on a test. We took a closer look at each model’s construction quality, level of comfort, easiness of cleaning, accessibility, level of ventilation, portability, value for the money, and other features. Our short but informative reviews should help you select a perfect heavy duty crate for your dog that will suit the needs of your pup in every way.
Housebreak your dog in style and with ease when you employ the Petmaker 2 Door Foldable Dog Crate Cage. This feature-loaded crate is constructed with plastic and steel, folds for storage ease, and includes two distinct doors, a divider panel for adjusting the crate length as your dog grows, a removable plastic tray, and more. It's the crate option that grows as your favorite canine does.

This method is favored by the smarter pooches who don’t have the strength to brute force their escape. The dog will play with the latch using their nose or paws until it is unlocked. Perseverance is vital for the dog in this regard, first attempts at manipulating the lock may seem clumsy and without purpose, but smart dogs soon learn what works and what does not.

The pan on the bottom is plastic, making it easy to clean, but it holds up well and is durable. It’s suggested that you put some sort of padding in there for your dog to make sure he or she is extra comfortable. The sides of the cage are made of wire and there are secure side bolts to make sure it stays shut. The company suggests that the dog breeds you put in there should be between 41 and 71 pounds.
We have 2 beagles that have always been crated together. As they have grown, we wanted to get them a larger kennel that would give them more space to relax while we were at work. I ordered this kennel after having read only the positive reviews; that turned out to be the biggest mistake ever. After only 2 weeks of use, we found 2 species of the metal bar inside of the crate after coming home from work. I immediately replaced this create with one purchased from a local pet store. My biggest concern was that my dogs could have been seriously injured by the metal pieces and I would have no idea. After all, the purpose of the crate is to protect them while we are away. I immediately contacted the seller requesting a return and they denied me, saying this was "damaged during use." I was appalled. This crate made for very large dogs; how could I not have the expectation that it would withstand my two medium sized dogs? After several emails with the seller including photos of the damage done, they offered me a 15% refund - $11.00 USD. I really hope anyone reading this review will learn from my mistake and take the negative reviews of this product seriously. It is a very poor quality product, which wouldn't be so bad if the seller stood behind it. Please, if you care about your pets at all, DO NOT purchase this product. Doing so would only potentially endanger your beloved pets.
Hi. I am so confused with all the crate advice. I have a German shepherd with major separation anxiety. She was a rescue dog. Has lots of issues. The complete destruction of my house and going potty on the floor is what I can’t take any more. Shes 16 mos. old. Vet recommended Pro select. Its expensive for me. BUT I don’t want to buy anymore gates or crates!!! I don’t have any couches left. Shes eaten 3 doors, floor boards, etc… I don’t want to find her another home. I LOVE her , and who knows where she may end up when she destroys their things??! I need something that will last ! IF I have to put it on a credit card . so be it. Please let me know what you truly think the best bet would be to contain a crazy shepherd?
Providing your crated dog with something to do will significantly decrease their chances of attempting to escape as it eases boredom and takes their mind off being confined. Kong goes one step further and has made a chew toy that can house treats. Your crated dog will smell and hear that there is a treat inside and will endeavor to get access to it.

Why it's at #7? I placed the Prevue Pet Products Home On-The-Go Single Door Dog Crate on the seventh position of best extra large dog crates list because the wiring was not durable for puppies going through separation anxiety, as one woeful tale from a customer showed. Also, several of the crates above it had weight limits of 90 pounds, whereas this one is five pounds less.
The wire is thinner than my old crate, which is also made of the black metal, but it is still sturdy. I used to have the really heavy silver steel crates but they are ugly and stronger than necessary. I guess if you have a dog you think might get out, you should use zip-ties all around and bungee the door when the dog is inside. The ... full review

The Proselect Empire Dog Cage is a durable and solidly made crate that comes in two sizes. This is a stainless steel dog crate with a side door making it very secure indeed. The stainless steel is finished that protects the steel bars from rust. This crate is designed to be indestructible from any even the strongest animal with durable steel tubing and latched double doors.
Did well. against a 90lbs 10 months pitbull puppy. He Is left inside this crate probably no longer than 3 hours at a time a day. At the most 4. We use this until he gets out of the teething stage or learned how to stop chewing on every soft plushy thing in the house. We place a pet bed in their too. He has room to turn around but when excited he can definitely move the cage but after being crate trained, it work very well for what it is made for.
Crates that don’t close securely are pretty worthless, so you’ll want to make sure that any crate you select has high-quality latches. But beware of crates with exceptionally large latching mechanisms, as some dogs will learn how to open the door themselves.  If you have an especially escape-prone pooch, you’ll probably need a crate especially designed for Houdini dogs with double latches or more advanced locking mechanisms.

Pros: Walter, as I stated before, has this crate and he loves it. It’s roomy enough for him to move around in, yet sizeable enough that he knows it’s a resting place. We put a dog pillow and toys in there for him and he’s occupied for hours. The sides are chew-proof and the bolts are secure enough where even pretty smart dogs won’t be able to break out. It’s a heavy crate, around 50 pounds.

Place the crate somewhere ‘scenic’ & interesting. It may be beneficial and relaxing for your dog to have something interesting to look at while in the kennel. You could experiment by placing the enclosure near a window so your pet can watch the world pass. The opposite may be beneficial and distractions such as cats and people walking by may get him overly excited and needing to escape.

Most Helpful review (read the full Amazon review): “PROS: It was very easy to set up, took about 20 minutes by myself. It looks nice too. Great two-day shipping with Amazon Prime. CONS: The eight metal panels are held together by 16 connectors, one at the top and one at the bottom at the points (octagon). These pieces are made of PLASTIC; thus not very strong and susceptible to breaking. One of them broke because one of the panel…“

Most Helpful review (read the full Amazon review): “Just over all, Mid-West makes the BEST crates. I've bred dogs for over 30 yrs and always use Mid-West crates. They last forever and have great features. This crate really does fit a Great Dane, or any large breed. I use one for my Great Pyrenees. I like the double latches on the doors, more secure than single latches if you have a dog that pushes to get out. This crate is not a “suitcase” crate like the other Mid-West crates, it does not fold down. But…“
First, consider your dog’s height, weight, and temperament. The height and weight of your dog will determine whether the dimensions of your best extra large dog crates will work for him or her. Then, consider their temperament. If they have separation anxiety or a tendency to chew on things, you want something that is sturdy and bend resistant. Also, if you have a puppy and want to start housebreaking, consider one of the crates we showed you that have a divider in it to help with the training.
When it comes to security measures, the kennel comes with the so-called “slam” latch, turning the crate into a self-closing model. The combination of aluminum and stainless steel as the primary build materials are guaranteed to provide your pet with the necessary amount of security during the car rides. Another thing worth mentioning is that the model is rust resistant, removing the need to avoid rain and wet conditions.
Helping Rescue Dogs Get Adjusted To Crates Rescuing a dog is a gracious act. It's sometimes tough to take home a dog without knowing what the pup's life was like before he or she ended up where you found them. Because of this, taking a dog home and training it to use a crate is a tough task, as many aren't too excited about being in a cage again. However, with the right kind of crate, your new dog can feel comfortable and right at home with its new family. CLICK HERE to see how rescue dogs can be trained to use Dog Crates

Most models come with wheels – they are mandatory. Some models don’t, and we advise you to avoid them as moving them around is a real hassle, especially if you travel often. Crates with wheels will allow you to easily transport your pooch no matter the circumstances. For the less portable solution, you might as well go with an outdoor kennel or a good quality playpen.
With a durable metal frame and grab-and-go duffle bag handles, the Pet Life Deluxe 360 Collapsible Pet Crate with Removable Bowl Red ensures ultimate durability and convenience when traveling with your pet. A 360-degree view keeps your pup happy, and an included removable pet bowl keeps him hydrated, too. Thinsulate technology creates an ideal temperature in the crate, and two zippered entrances allow for accessibility.
Cons: A purchaser made a good point that this crate was not good for dogs with very severe separation anxiety, as the wires are bendable if he or she is determined to get out. They won’t detach from the soldering, but they can bend and a small enough puppy will clamber out. If you have a dog with separation anxiety, you might want to try behavioral training or look for something less bendable.
The next major consideration when choosing a heavy duty crate is portability. Will you be using the dog crate primarily at home – As a part of the furniture, or will you be using it to transport your dog on a camping trip? There are a few dog crates on the market today that is both heavy duty and collapsible making them ideal travel crates. If you are opting for a travel crate, then the best build material will be wood or aluminum for both strength and portability whereas a home crate is best made out of steel for maximum strength and value for money.
If you want the very best escape proof crate with no exceptions, then this impact dog crate is it. The Impact Case Stationary represents the ultimate indestructible dog crate. Made in the USA from high quality and durable .063 aluminum makes this crate incredibly strong as well as being lightweight and easy to move. This crate is corrosion resistant and will last a great many years making it a sound investment. This is especially important considering dogs can live for up to 2 decades. IATA compliant for airline travel!

Pros: Customers were pleased with the portability and collapsibility of this gate. The construction is sturdy (make sure you stay within the recommended weight limit). The double doors on this particular kennel are convenient if you have a need to have multiple exits for your dog. The carrying handles make it easy to move around and its housebreaking ability makes it a big seller amongst owners with puppies that will eventually grow into bigger dogs.
Cons: And on that note, even though the dogs weren’t able to get through the mesh, they still were able to chew the zippers, some of them. If you have a puppy that loves chewing things and making escape attempts, watch out for the zippers. Also, several customers pointed out that there was a plastic smell when you opened the crate, but one aired it out for several days and found that the smell was gone once it was hit with fresh air.

Experiment with different crate placements. Sometimes, you can reduce your dog’s desire to escape from his kennel by placing it in a different location. You may find, for example, that by placing him within view of a window, he stops trying to escape as much. You may also find that the opposite – eliminating his view of squirrels and pedestrians – may calm him down more.

One customer claimed that it only took her 45 seconds to set up, which means that it isn’t complicated to put together. It also is collapsible for storage, though even when folded; it is a large piece of equipment. Lastly, customers were impressed by how the crate itself seemed deeper when you went into it (probably due to the lower pan at the bottom).
Making your dog crate comfortable and cozy for your dog will go a long way in making them unwilling to escape. Nobody wants to sit on a cold, and hard floor, and the same applies to our dogs! There is a broad variety of doggy beds available online from dog mats to luxury doggy beds. Be sure to check the floor dimensions of your dog crate to make sure that your new dog bed purchase will fit inside. Dog crate pads are dedicated aimed at dog crates, and many of them are chew proof and waterproof for obvious reasons.
If you have a pooch that loves to escape their kennel, check out the Goplus Metal Wire Pet Crate. It is a good crate for those dogs that are keen to get away. It can be easily moved around the house although it is not collapsible, it is relatively lightweight. Indestructible dog crates are a great investment because you will not need to replace it.
