But secure containment should not equal neglect. Your pet has mental and physical needs too. She can last for up to 8 hours without needing to relieve herself. However, apart from the extreme exceptional circumstance, you should be giving your dog a break outside the crate at least once in 4 hours. You should also have allowed her to get some exercise before crating. She should also have access to water.

Keeping the dog inside is not the only purpose of a pet crate – it also protects the pooch from the dangers of the outside world. During the journey, a kennel has to withstand things like scrapes, bumps, and occasional knocks without breaking apart. Therefore, the heavy-duty models are your best choice – they’re sturdier and more durable than the regular crates.
The wires used for small crates may not be sturdy or rigid enough to retain their structural integrity when used in big crates. Additionally, large dogs have stronger jaws and teeth than smaller dogs do. Accordingly, you’ll always want to look for crates that feature thick, strong wire (if you opt for a wire-style crate – there are certainly plenty of other options out there too!).

Overview: This uniquely designed dog kennel looks like a tiny hut and is designed for outdoor use and protecting your dog from the elements. Its dimensions are huge; five feet long by five feet wide by five feet high. The roof on top of the “hut” is a weather-resistant cover made of polyurethane. The Gazebo doesn’t require tools to set it up, and the access window that is secure and safe to lock and latch.

One owner notes that the only major difference between this crate and higher-end models is that the door locks could potentially be opened if a dog pushes the lever with their tongue. And indeed, several owners have noted that the locks weren’t able to keep their Houdini hounds in check. However, one individual notes that you could simply zip tie or caribeaner the lock if escape is an issue.

This crate is a piece of junk -- literally. We bought it for our very calm and docile Irish Setter. In less than two hours, he had completely destroyed the gate and had the cheap bars pointing in every direction and was at the door to the garage to greet us. The spot welds were worthless as it came apart very easily. When I contacted the seller about the crate, they responded that they were sorry about problems with the "table" and would replace it if I paid to send it back! I wrote back that it was an inferior product, why would I want another one and that I expected a full refund and a return label. I even included pictures of the gate. Now they tell me that they won't take it back because it has been damaged?? HELLO! Why do you think I am returning it. I would not buy a single thing from this vendor -- RUN don't walk away from all their products!! I intend to call amazon directly about this vendor! In less than 2 hours it was destroyed!!

Cons: Some customers pointed out that the weight of the crate is light, even though the crate itself is sturdy. One discussed his dog, a 100 pound boxer, who repeatedly rammed himself into the sides until it broke. This experience probably isn’t common for most dog owners, so I wouldn’t expect this to happen to you unless your dog is as determined and large as that one (who exceeded the recommended weight by ten pounds, actually).

Place the crate somewhere ‘scenic’ & interesting. It may be beneficial and relaxing for your dog to have something interesting to look at while in the kennel. You could experiment by placing the enclosure near a window so your pet can watch the world pass. The opposite may be beneficial and distractions such as cats and people walking by may get him overly excited and needing to escape.
I wish I would have seen the most recent review. Our puppy, key word 4 month old puppy, was able to destroy this defective and cheap product on its third use. We have used many other kennels with this dog and another adult and never had problems before. The seller is expecting me to pay return shipping on a defect item that is now trash so that I can get a refund. Do not buy this product or from this seller. This is definitely not meant for XL dogs as it states since a puppy was able to wreck it.
It also has air vents at the tops and bottoms of the sides and rear of the crate. The front door has the greatest level of airflow due to it’s vertical and horizontal crossover bar design. And of course because the crate is made from aluminum, it dissipates heat much faster than a steel crate could. So this is a crate that you could comfortably in multi-climates. The crate won’t get too hot, and it has ample air flow all around.
The New Age Pet Habitat n Home InnPlace Dog Crate and Table resembles a Mission-style end table for your living room, but it also serves as a great place for your pet. It features brushed stainless steel spindles in the door and sides for added safety. This piece also features eco-friendly construction and has a door latch to keep secure. Easy, tool-free assembly is required. Simply choose from available size options.

Ever since Walter recovered from the devastating blow of not being allowed to sleep in a human bed with us, he’s been content to sleep in his own dog crate, which is adequately sized for a dog of his proportions. By giving him one of the best extra large dog crates where he’s able to feel comfortable in and not squished, we’ve made his adjustment to life without a human bed much more comfortable.
So you’re here because your dog makes light work figuring out how to destroy or escape from a standard crate, and wondering if there are crates strong enough to put a stop to that. So now it’s time for a gorilla tough escape proof dog crate to secure your strong or smart Houdini right? Great, you’re in the right place. We’ve reviewed a selection of the toughest heavy duty dog crates and kennels to secure small Houdinis to large powerful dogs that best fit a variety of needs and budgets.
Pros: Walter, as I stated before, has this crate and he loves it. It’s roomy enough for him to move around in, yet sizeable enough that he knows it’s a resting place. We put a dog pillow and toys in there for him and he’s occupied for hours. The sides are chew-proof and the bolts are secure enough where even pretty smart dogs won’t be able to break out. It’s a heavy crate, around 50 pounds.

Some owners had a difficult time with the assembly instructions, claiming they needed to be clearer. This crate is also so big that the only way to really move it is to disassemble the entire unit, so not great for those who want a crate they can easily relocate. And as always, there were a few dogs who managed to make quick work of the crate, although this was relatively uncommon.
Pros: This crate worked especially well for owners frustrated of their pets chewing through cages constantly. The crate also doesn’t rattle or shake easily and the tray is simple to remove at the bottom (no struggling). The ease of assembly and disassembly make it an attractive seller for busy owners who don’t have time to read through a 100 page manual on how to put it together.
Unlike the Impact, the Zinger Winger no dog escape crate uses solid metal steel bars for its door. Dogs will often choose to attack the door, knowing it is both the way he gets in and out. It is important that it is tough and secure. This robust solution works well here. It has a quality locking mechanism. This one uses two flush-mounted slap latches to ensure a secure close. It also uses a full length piano hinge plus striker plate. Its design also allows for reversible door installation. So it’s great for left-handers as well as right-handers.
Several owners complained that their dog was able to bend the wires and escape, so this isn’t a good choice for dogs who are escape artists, although it should serve fine for most pooches. Additionally, a few owners reported that while the crate can be collapsed, it’s not especially easy to do, so it isn’t a great choice for owners who plan to travel with the crate frequently.
It is always wisest to purchase a crate that will last for your dog’s entire life, rather than buying a small one when she’s a puppy and increasingly larger crates as she grows. Instead, go ahead and buy a crate that is suitable for her adult size and use dividers to temporarily shrink the size of the interior. As she grows, you can remove the divider to provide access to the entire crate.
Keep your pup's environment clean and inviting with the Petmate Black Pan For Care Crates. This durable plastic pan has a convenient slide-out design that makes cleanup easy for pet owners. It comes in a black finish and is available in your choice of size. The nonporous surface repels food and water, while the generous lip prevents excess spillage.

Many people will be reading this because they are looking for dog crates for Pitbulls which are indeed extremely powerful pooches. You will need a good gorilla-tough dog crate to keep them under control. Physical strength is only one aspect of a dogs escape ability! Pooches are intelligent animals and will work relentlessly to find a weak spot and exploit it.
I am using this cage currently for 2 of my 4 dogs, a little tiny 2 pound chihuahua and an 8 pound mix puppy. Sometimes they "share" and sometimes its just for one or the other. They both "fit" with room to spare. It comes with a divider if I want to keep them separate but so far I have not done so. It's too big to use as a housebreaking aid because it leaves them room to "go" without disturbing their natural instincts to keep their den clean but if I wanted to use it for that it could be done by using the divider. I hesitated for a long time about what size to get and this one seems nice, not too big or too small, it is certainly plenty tall for them.
