The wire is thinner than my old crate, which is also made of the black metal, but it is still sturdy. I used to have the really heavy silver steel crates but they are ugly and stronger than necessary. I guess if you have a dog you think might get out, you should use zip-ties all around and bungee the door when the dog is inside. The ... full review
When it comes to security measures, the kennel comes with the so-called “slam” latch, turning the crate into a self-closing model. The combination of aluminum and stainless steel as the primary build materials are guaranteed to provide your pet with the necessary amount of security during the car rides. Another thing worth mentioning is that the model is rust resistant, removing the need to avoid rain and wet conditions.

Ever since Walter recovered from the devastating blow of not being allowed to sleep in a human bed with us, he’s been content to sleep in his own dog crate, which is adequately sized for a dog of his proportions. By giving him one of the best extra large dog crates where he’s able to feel comfortable in and not squished, we’ve made his adjustment to life without a human bed much more comfortable.
Most Helpful review (read the full Amazon review): “I bought 2 of the 42x28x31″ crates for a 60 lb border collie mix, and a 50 lb pitbull/lab mix. They are extremely easy to set up, and roomy enough for both dogs to stretch out. The crates are properly assembled according to the instructions, but both dogs have figured out how to break out without opening the front door, which I'm guessing is why they're so much cheaper…”
Features: The Petmate Sky Kennel is primarily built of sturdy, high-quality plastic, but it still provides great ventilation to keep your pet comfortable. The front door is made of steel wire, as are the two windows on each side, and the back of the crate is perforated plastic. The door features a vault-style latch and is secured in four places for maximum security.
Most Helpful review (read the full Amazon review): “Just over all, Mid-West makes the BEST crates. I've bred dogs for over 30 yrs and always use Mid-West crates. They last forever and have great features. This crate really does fit a Great Dane, or any large breed. I use one for my Great Pyrenees. I like the double latches on the doors, more secure than single latches if you have a dog that pushes to get out. This crate is not a “suitcase” crate like the other Mid-West crates, it does not fold down. But…“
If you want the very best escape proof crate with no exceptions, then this impact dog crate is it. The Impact Case Stationary represents the ultimate indestructible dog crate. Made in the USA from high quality and durable .063 aluminum makes this crate incredibly strong as well as being lightweight and easy to move. IATA compliant for airline travel!
The shipping weight is double that—103 pounds. Customers agreed with my assessment, with one woman commenting on its size by posting a picture of her four kids locked in there to prove how big it is. It’s also easy to put together, but durable enough so it won’t get ripped apart. Another major “pro” is how cleanable the tray is—that’s one of the best arguments for buying it; no one wants to deal with mold or bacteria when cleaning their dog’s equipment.

As with anything, the best comes at a price, and the Impact Case Collapsible dog crate is no exception! This is a real escape proof dog crate made with absolute precision from quality .063 aluminum which makes it 20% lighter (41lbs) than other dog crates in this category. The strength of the aluminum is complimented with very sturdy rivets. Being made of aluminum makes it also corrosion resistant giving it a longevity that is important when spending this kind of money on a dog crate.
So I pet sit and crates are a must for those who aren't potty trained so I have a crate in every size and shape. My last 48 broke from wear and tear so I got this one and the price is good but the cage is sort of flimsy. This wouldn't be a brand I'd recommend for anxious dogs or those who try to escape. I have many metal crates and some are stronger than others but I think this one is one of the weaker ones. Still serves its purpose for the calmer dogs who won't paw at it.
On the budget end of the price range is the Smithbuilt self-proclaimed ‘Heavy Duty Dog Crate.’ This industrial looking dog crate is crafted using high-quality steel to make a strong, durable crate that will prove inescapable for a dog and will last for many years. The front door is locked with two slide bolt latches, and the top opening is secured with one. There have been reports that the locking mechanism is weak and can be hugely improved with a standard padlock bought separately. Smithbuilt has made this crate fade, rust, and corrosion resistant by covering it with a multi-layer finish that is better than the powder coat paints on other brands of a dog crate.

This crate is very easy to set up and folds up very nicely into carrying case when it is not needed, saving a lot of space. I was able to fit it in my 2-Door car easily and take it with when traveling with my puppy on my last trip out of town. This is a very, very large crate and could easily accommodate…“
The simplest and probably most common way is brute force. Do not make a mistake in believing only big dominant dogs and use this method. If there is a point of weakness in your crate – any size dog can exploit it with some force. One of the most common ways dog’s brute their way to escape is by using their heads to force the bars apart. Cheaply made crates and flimsy metal are susceptible to this.

Beware of other cheap cages that do not have a good number of customer reviews. You’ll have less reason to have confidence in whether it’ll be suitable or a complete waste of money, or even dangerous for your pet.
Those of us with bigger dogs know the struggle of trying to find best extra large dog crates that won’t be too small and constricting on our beloved pets. There's hardly anything pleasurable about seeing a dog squished uncomfortably into a tiny dog crate. My Australian Shepherd, Walter, is a very… enthusiastic dog. Walter, God love him, is wild. He wants to be a part of everything, even things that shouldn’t include him at all, such as taking a shower, baking, and sleeping.
Features: The Ultima Pro is a wire-style crate that is constructed from the strongest and thickest wire Midwest Homes for Pets uses for any crate. It is equipped with two doors (one on the front and one on the side), which each feature two slide-bolt latches. And while it is a sturdy crate, the Ultima Pro collapses quickly and features a strong carrying handle.
It is always wisest to purchase a crate that will last for your dog’s entire life, rather than buying a small one when she’s a puppy and increasingly larger crates as she grows. Instead, go ahead and buy a crate that is suitable for her adult size and use dividers to temporarily shrink the size of the interior. As she grows, you can remove the divider to provide access to the entire crate.
Several owners complained that their dog was able to bend the wires and escape, so this isn’t a good choice for dogs who are escape artists, although it should serve fine for most pooches. Additionally, a few owners reported that while the crate can be collapsed, it’s not especially easy to do, so it isn’t a great choice for owners who plan to travel with the crate frequently.
This is the cutest crate ever. I love the pink color. My dog will even go in here when everyone is home just to chew on her bones or take a nap. A size small perfectly fits a 20 lb Boston/Pug mix. If your dog is an escape artist, however, you might want a different crate because this latch is kind of easy for them to unhinge. My dog has escaped two times, but that was when her separation anxiety was a lot worse, which I think helped catalyze her escape.
