One owner notes that the only major difference between this crate and higher-end models is that the door locks could potentially be opened if a dog pushes the lever with their tongue. And indeed, several owners have noted that the locks weren’t able to keep their Houdini hounds in check. However, one individual notes that you could simply zip tie or caribeaner the lock if escape is an issue.
Pros: Walter, as I stated before, has this crate and he loves it. It’s roomy enough for him to move around in, yet sizeable enough that he knows it’s a resting place. We put a dog pillow and toys in there for him and he’s occupied for hours. The sides are chew-proof and the bolts are secure enough where even pretty smart dogs won’t be able to break out. It’s a heavy crate, around 50 pounds.
Making your dog crate comfortable and cozy for your dog will go a long way in making them unwilling to escape. Nobody wants to sit on a cold, and hard floor, and the same applies to our dogs! There is a broad variety of doggy beds available online from dog mats to luxury doggy beds. Be sure to check the floor dimensions of your dog crate to make sure that your new dog bed purchase will fit inside. Dog crate pads are dedicated aimed at dog crates, and many of them are chew proof and waterproof for obvious reasons.
Overview: This uniquely designed dog kennel looks like a tiny hut and is designed for outdoor use and protecting your dog from the elements. Its dimensions are huge; five feet long by five feet wide by five feet high. The roof on top of the “hut” is a weather-resistant cover made of polyurethane. The Gazebo doesn’t require tools to set it up, and the access window that is secure and safe to lock and latch.
Overview: This extra large dog crate is made by the same company as the one before this. It contains a double door (making it different from the last crate) and its dimensions are 48” x 30” x 33,” making it appropriate for dogs up to 90 pounds. There is a dividing panel, making for easy housebreaking, and it folds down and is collapsible for portable storage.
Why it's at #6? We put this Midwest Life Stages Single-Door Folding Metal Dog Crate as sixth on the list of best extra large dog crates because several customers had issues with it collapsing, though whether this was from human error or because of faulty conditioning, they weren’t specific. But, when it comes to housebreaking, the dividers in this are very useful.
Features: The Midwest Homes for Pets Ginormous Crate measures a whopping 54 inches long, 37 inches wide and 45 inches tall, making it big enough for most Great Danes, Irish wolfhounds, mastiffs and other big breeds. The Ginormous Dog Crate is a wire-style crate, that uses special L-bars to prevent the sides from bowing out the way they do with some crates.
Whether you have a new puppy or an adult dog, you want to pick just the right dog kennel. After all, the kennel will serve as a part-time “home” for your dog. I love the size of this crate and the tray on the bottom it's a great thing to have when a "time out" needed. However, we experienced some of the same problems as others; puppy tearing it apart because of small gage wire, welds not holding, needing to use zip-tries to hold the walls together and problems opening the door latches - this is why it received 3 stars for this review. My husband called the company and they readily fixed the issue without a hassle or argument; the company itself gets 5 stars for their customer service.

The shipping weight is double that—103 pounds. Customers agreed with my assessment, with one woman commenting on its size by posting a picture of her four kids locked in there to prove how big it is. It’s also easy to put together, but durable enough so it won’t get ripped apart. Another major “pro” is how cleanable the tray is—that’s one of the best arguments for buying it; no one wants to deal with mold or bacteria when cleaning their dog’s equipment.
This is a very nice carrier with a top and side door. The top door is not a moon roof. I like the top door--a lot-- because once I catch one of the little monst—I mean cats, I don’t want to have to shove it in the door. I love the drop-a-cat door. It cuts down on my injuries by 90%. The little bugg—, I mean cat, only got me once instead of leaving a full set of scratch marks on my hands and arms.
